ASCCP Seeks Comments on New Standards for the Practice of Colposcopy in the United States

The Colposcopy Standards project is an evidenced-based approach which used literature, data abstraction, expert opinion, systematic reviews and meta-analyses.  As much as possible, the standards try to harmonize with other programs with consideration given to a no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach due to: no organized screening, no national integrated health system, different types of providers performing colposcopy as well as a wide gap in the number of annual colposcopies performed and no formal colposcopy certification program.
