• Understand commonly used treatments for cancer and their specific effects on sexuality
• Counsel patients on expectations during treatment
During treatment for cancer, focus is often placed on survival over quality of life. Women are frequently
left to find their “new normal” during and after treatment which can negatively affect both the patient and
their loved ones. Identifying potential impact of cancer treatment on sexuality and addressing it with
patients throughout their journey is critical to maintaining optimal sexual functioning.
