Irwin Goldstein, MD, IF
• Identify central mechanism and iatrogenic causes of orgasm disorders
• Apply strategies to treat women with orgasm disorders
The classification of female sexual dysfunction engages women with persistent distressing decreased
sexual interest, and/or low sexual arousal, and/or orgasmic dysfunction. Hormonal and non-hormonal
strategies are directed to rebalancing the central sexual reflex that is most likely abnormal due to
increased inhibition and decreased excitation. The various pharmacologic strategies—both hormonal and
non-hormonal—will be reviewed to restore sexual function by diminishing sexual inhibition
neurotransmitters and by increasing sexual excitation neurotransmitters.
