Educational Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, clinicians should be better able to:

  • Apply knowledge gained regarding musculoskeletal dysfunctions when listening to a woman's concerns during pregnancy and postpartum.
  • Learn about maternal care offered in other countries.
  • Synthesize women's complaints during the childbearing year regarding incontinence, prolapse, constipation, pelvic congestion, decreased sexuality, pelvic and back pain contributing to fatigue and decreased ability to perform functional tasks.
  • Assess contributing factors to pain and poor body function from a simple subjective survey.
  • Be able to offer guidance, education, and intervention to prevent and resolve musculoskeletal dysfunctions during the childbearing year based on current clinical evidence.
  • Appreciate the assessment and evaluation components of the Postpartum Strong Program.

Successful Completion of the Activity:

Successful completion of this online activity, 18-04-31, requires the participant to:

Program description:

The session will highlight signs and symptoms as well as treatment suggestions for pelvic floor muscles that have increased muscle tension or hypotension, incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, diastasis, tissue healing/time for intercourse, pelvic congestion/constipation, hormones and lubrication.

This activity has been evaluated and approved by the Continuing Education Approval Program of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH), and has been approved for 0.6 contact hour(s) of CE credit.  Each participant should claim only those contact hours that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
